How do we find the courage to answer Jesus’ call to us?
Read “Living in the Now,” When You Come Unglued . . . Stick Close to God, pages 71-81.
Comfort and Risk
Imagining yourself in the story of Jesus and his disciples in the boat during a storm (Matthew 14: 22-33), consider where you feel more comfortable–safe in the boat or out on the water? Do you long to walk to Jesus in ways you haven’t yet done?
Pros and Cons
Make two columns on your page. Head one “Pros” and the other “Cons.” Then list all the pros of staying in the boat and then the cons. Do the same with stepping out on the water. Take a moment to read your answers and then ask God to show you the patterns of your life.
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. –John 14:27 (NIV) Peace is not the absence of conflict, lack of trouble, or scarcity of problems. Peace is not a feeling. Peace is the person of Jesus – and when we know him, we can experience true peace.
Faithful God, I want to know your peace which surpasses all understanding. By your Spirit, bring your peace to rule in my heart. Help me to believe that as you call to me, you are holding me in the palm of your hand. Amen.
