Adversity and God
What kind of things constitute a dark valley to you? In your experience, do these things create a barrier between you and God? Why might that be so?
Naming the Dark Valleys
Start a journal page with the words, “I know I’m in a dark valley when…” Complete the sentence at least five times. Read over your responses–what pattern emerges for you?
Loving Creator, I know that the dark valleys of our lives are part of our human condition and experience. Help me to understand that they are not a punishment, but an opportunity for me to experience you in a new and deeper way. Thank God for the ways in which divine love is present to you in your dark valley.
