What creative gifts can you offer to honor God and to encourage others?

The Pursuit of Creativity
In chapter 2 of Woman Overboard, Jo writes about her own process of creativity. Eventually she came to understand that what many called a passion was another way to describe the creative gifts given to all. For her, that passion is storytelling through writing. Her writing provides a life-giving energy to her because she feels that God has called and equipped her to write. Sometimes, though, our creative gifts can complicate our relationship with God because we use them for our own acclaim or attention. As God’s creation, we were created to offer our handiwork and creative efforts to please and honor God, praying in the process that our gifts will serve others. Describe the creative gifts God has given you. In what ways have you tried to use—or would like to use—those gifts to encourage others? What’s kept you from pursuing creative efforts?
Creative Places for Inspiration
Make a list of the creative places (such as museums, galleries, concert halls, national parks, sanctuaries, bookstores, oceans, and so forth) that inspire you. Recall and record encounters you had in those places that could ignite a renewed sense of wonder and desire to use your creativity for God’s glory in service to others. How can your creativity inspire others and point them to Jesus?
My Gifts and Your Plan
Gracious Lord, because of your Son, you create in me a clean heart so that I may offer my creative gifts to you in new ways. Please use my gifts as part of your plan to bring hope and healing to others. You alone are the Giver of all good gifts. Thank you for hearing my prayer today and always. Amen.
Discussion with Friends and Family:
A Creative Jam Session
Plan a creative jam session with your friends, family, or small-group members to celebrate one another’s creative gifts. Bring musical instruments, paintbrushes, food ingredients, original poems, yarn and needles, or other items that reflect your gifts. Ask God to be present and honored among you as you take turns offering your creative gift to inspire and encourage others. Read Ephesians 2:10 aloud. How is your sense of wonder for God increased through one another’s creativity? How can you serve the world creatively and joyfully as someone who loves Jesus Christ?
