Respond with Grateful Wonder
Holy and creative God, you made the earth with colors and shapes and patterns—such a celebration of diversity! You delight in the unique intricacies of each living thing you have made, just as you delight over me with singing. Thank you for the beauty of the world and for your creative gifts that you’ve given me to enjoy. Help me to respond daily with grateful wonder at the works of your hand. Amen.
Immerse Yourself in Wonder
Use this week to find ways to immerse yourself in the wonder of God’s creation. Sit by a lake or river, walk your dog through a park, hike in the mountains, take a stroll through your neighborhood, or simply pay attention to the world around you during your daily commute. Stare at the clouds or a building or the things you usually pass by quickly. Then describe in your journal what you saw, heard, and felt. How and where did you see God’s presence in the world?
The Act of Creating
Because God created the world and you are created in God’s image, you are a creative being, even if you don’t always feel that way. Whether creating new recipes for dinner, painting, singing in a choir (or the shower), or grabbing your smartphone to take a photo of the sunset, you can’t help but participate in the act of creating. What specific acts of creation do you most enjoy? How do they make you feel and how might they help you recognize God’s creative nature?
Discussion with Friends and Family:
Knowing God’s Love
“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth” (Gen. 1:1, NIV). God is your maker, the creative artist of the universe, the source of all beauty. Since you are made in God’s image, you possess creative gifts to offer to others. As Paul writes in Ephesians 2:10, “We are what [God] has made us, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand to be our way of life.” What are some practical and creative ways you can serve others so they might know God’s love?
