Get to Know God Better

For the word of the LORD is right and true; he is faithful in all he does. The LORD loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of his unfailing love. By the word of the LORD the heavens were made, their starry host by the breath of his mouth. -Psalm 33:4-6, NIV

We can’t trust in someone we don’t know, and that is the first step in learning to trust in God. What can you do to get to know God better?

Write out a situation where you need God’s intervention. Be sure to include what you’ve tried to do so far and how you’re feeling about it. Then write, “I surrender.” Reflect on what it would mean if you truly did just give up. What do you fear would happen? Next, write, “I give it to you, Lord.” How does the idea of just letting go and giving it to God make you feel? From this moment on, every time the situation surfaces in your mind, say, “I surrender. I give it to you, Lord.” You may say it a hundred times, until suddenly you realize that you are no longer focused on that situation. You have truly let go and let God.

Pray in Faith

Caring God, I know that you love me, understand me, and only want the best for me. Because I know these things, I can let go and trust that you will do what is right for me. (Reflect on giving up control in a situation, and thank God for accepting it from you.)
